A Pretty Decent Wednesday

So I did do some work today. But in the in between there were little moments of nice.
First off we finally got rid of the pigeons and the pigeon poop, so we could open the windows and enjoy the nice weather.

The cats were a little confused about the screen.
Scribble was all about stalking the pigeons who were totally ticked about not having a roost anymore. Haha stupid pigeon.

Momo was all about hunting flies. Pretty funny and a good way to waste the day away.

Then there was this huge carrot. I mean, have you ever had one this big that you bought from the store? Thanks Ypsilanti food co op. for the gigantic food.

Last was Plane Spotting and beer. Mike came over to talk shop. Like I said a pretty decent Wednesday.

Getting All Business Like

Today Alex and I opened our business accts. We applied for our business licenses last week and as of today we are legal in the state of Michigan to do business. I can't decide if I am really excited or freaked the fudge out. Either way I am officially Jenny Wolff-Harrison Photography, LLC and Alex is Flaming Armadillo Productions, LLC. Now if I only had some clients to pay me so I can put more money in there. Also I am accepting donations to the "Jenny needs a new camera and some lights fund". Please send checks or money orders to 200 W. Michigan Ave. Apt. 2F, Ypsilanti, MI 48197. Oh and my phone number has changed if anyone needs it leave a comment and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

P.S. Just kidding about the the donations, but not really.

Creepy Crawlies / I screamed like a little girl!!!!

So as a Southerner I have had many the roach/palmetto bug in the shower or crawling up your pants or flying around the room like Woodstock from the Peanuts looking like it is trying to kamikaze right into your left eye oh sh@t moments. In these instances I scream and run like hell to another room where I can shut the door and wait out the invasion. I blame this reaction on my father who really got a kick out of chasing me around the house with roach carcases when I was young. Pretty sure he would still do this if I lived with him. Now that I am married, Alex and his size 13 shoe take care of the bugs in a timely manner so I do not completely loose my voice screaming and he does not have to explain to the cops that he was not beating me, I was just overreacting due to overly large bug. Now I have had the same sort of experience here in Ypsi, only thank god this thing did (that is right it is deceased) not have wings. It did however have more legs than a roach and it was crawling out of the vent hole of my All Stars as I was putting one on. Because of the no wings I quit screaming and took this photo before Alex squished it. The whole time going "oh my God what is this thing?"!

Meeting new folks

Last night Alex and I went to our first house party in Michigan. It was at Laura and Keith's house in Ann Arbor, right down the street from Mike and right next door to the best beer store on the planet. I had already lubed up my social skills with a few beers so I was ready to talk to strangers. Alex and Mike were totally chilling on the edge of the party and as usual I threw myself right into the middle of it. First I met Jonathon, one of Mike's video friends. One of the weirdest conversationalist ever. It was sort of like talking to a tree ( Alex totally agreed with me on this one), maybe he was drunk. Not sure how the conversation turned to cock fighting but this guy Mark was jabbering on about it so I couldn't help but join in on this one. He had never seen a cock fight and truthfully I have never seen an organized cockfight in person but I have seen two roosters going at each other like two drunk rednecks arguing about which team is better Auburn or Alabama. Then I had to tell them about the time my uncle's asshole rooster attacked me when I was eight, and how they have talon like spikes on the back of their legs. I had to admit that as long as they do not add blades to the roosters, I really do not have a problem with cock fighting. Not sure that went over to well. The conversation turned to something lame so my attention was diverted to a side conversation, and that is how I met Dan and Bill. The best fun of the night was talking to these two, it was like they rehearsed or something. I may have almost peed myself laughing. Hope I get to talk to them again. Then, in walked a blond bomb shell in a tight red dress trailing a tidal wave sized wake of men. This was Jolee. Didn't get to talk to her much but wow what a show, I just couldn't look away. When I did pry my eyes off her and her entourage, I decided to step outside to talk with Keith (the host) and Robin (an English bloke from South Africa). I self labeled myself the interrupter as I tried to get a word in. This is when I turned into Jennytard and really did something stupid. I don't even remember how it started but I was like I bet I can throw this and hit you right in the forehead, so i picked up what I thought was popcorn and proceeded to bounce it off Robin's head. He was like if you do that one more time I will knock you right off that chair. This is when I realized I was throwing balled up cigarette butts. I told him I was sorry and we all laughed our asses off because I am stupid and he was super nice. I guess I win the Stupid Girl From Alabama Award on that little gem. The numbers started to dwindle at around 1am so we said our goodbyes and thank yous and walked back to Mike's place. All and all it was a pretty fun night. I just hope I learn how to behave myself one day.

Getting Crafty

So Alex and I got all domestic and made and hung curtains for our closet and our makeshift garage/huge metal shelf in the corner. We spent the first half of the day going to the local hardware store, fabric store and the food co op. I know the food co op has nothing to do with getting crafty but we have been meaning to check it out since we have been here but had not found the time. It is fabulous, totally biking distance and has everything we will need even toiletries. So back to the point. I pulled out the sewing machine and Alex went to the third floor to grab a huge ladder and we got busy. Here is what we did.

Here is Alex on the huge ladder. All our junk is hidden now, Whoo Hoooo!
Birds Eye View.
Cutting the extra.
Hanging the last picture while we have the ladder.
Sewing.
The super cute fabric. Owls and Woodland Creatures.
All done. Now we can't see that junk either.
Scribble likes it.

Work and Red Wings

So we have 1 and a half boxes to go, then we will be fully moved in. The place is looking better and better every day. We have adopted a teak coffee table from my buddy mike which replaces the uneven carboy cardboard box we were using. Start of next week we will get to work on business cards and a new website geared solely towards wedding video and photography. All three of us will work in conjunction to do as many weddings as possible and get ourselves in a stable position to do some more creative jobs in the future. We were all very sad to see the Red Wings loose their series last night against the Sharks. It would have been cool to be here and see them go to the Stanley Cup finals, but we had a great time going out every other night to cheer them on. And so the adventure continues...

Well we made it.

Stuck in traffic in Toledo

Alex and Momo napping Mike and Alex

Momo, tired from her travels Me and the cats taking an unpacking break

Hi everyone. We made it to Ypsilanti. It was a long long long drive but we had no real issues and very few delays. We arrived to find a great loft apartment with no electricity, which meant no hot shower for 3 road weary individuals. We settled on just being stinky and going out for a much deserved beer and black bean burger. Thanks to Mike we already may have found 0ur favorite restaurant, Sidetrack in Depot Town, just a few blocks away from our Apt. At this point we have been here a week and have been to Sidetrack twice. They have the best onion rings I have ever eaten and that is really saying something. Last night we walked out our door and across the street to a dive bar called The Elbowroom. I tried my hand at a bit of pool with the local boys and lost but just barely. I wasn't even going to play but a girl named Genevieve put my name on the board and would not let me take it off. I think I did better than they expected and may try again next time. I definitely gained a fan in an older black man with very few teeth and and very few fingers on one of his hands. His name is Loyd but he goes by Soul Train and has a train tattooed on his arm. He let me use his cue to try and beat the preppy white boy who beat him after he was on a 4 game streak. I am pretty sure this is my new hang out. The beer is good and relatively cheap and the people seem mostly friendly.

Back to the actual reason I am writing this post. The boxes are mostly unpacked an we finally have Internet, whoo hoo. I hope everyone has had as good a week as we have. I have been lazy on getting the few photos we have taken onto the computer but will try to do it very soon. We have not been able to watch TV yet either so are completely out of the loop on the oil spill in the Gulf. What little I have heard has been on NPR. I am completely heart broken over this catastrophe.

P.S. Alex now has tummy ache because he ate too much popcorn. Oh and the cats are doing great. They love our outside deck and sitting in the window watching the pigeons.
